Facebook competition rules relaxedIf you have ever run a competition on a Facebook Business Page – you will know that there are a few things you have to be careful of – just in case you fall foul of FB’s terms and conditions.

It was always the case that Page admins have not been allowed to use Facebook’s own functionality to run competitions or promotions. Things like asking fans to like or comment on a post was something that could have got you into hot water – we have heard of instances where pages were threatened with closure because the failed to follow the guidelines.

For many small businesses the only option was to use a 3rd Party App to administer their competitions off-site – like Wildfire or Woobox. However, in the last twenty four hours all those things have changed.

Yesterday Facebook announced it was changing its terms and allowing page owners to:-

  • Collect entries by having users posting on the Page or commenting/liking a Page post
  • Collect entries by having users messaging the Page
  • Utilising likes as a voting mechanism

As you would expect there will still be some restrictions on things like accepting entries by tagging photos – but at least for a lot of small businesses running a Facebook competition it has just got a lot easier.
