For some time now Google has been displaying a star rating for particular businesses. Social proof is a big deal for your business.  Here is a really interesting piece on Social Proof by the lovely people at Kissmetrics.

So the theory goes, if a visitor to your page sees that others rate your business then this has the potential to increase the propensity for others to buy.

Facebook has for the past 12 months been testing their own star rating system. Here is a screenshot from one of our own customers Facebook page.

The star rating appears directly under the business name.

In a statement from Facebook they said, “We’re extending star ratings on Facebook from mobile to desktop – to make it easier for people to discover great businesses around them. This is beneficial for both businesses and consumers”.

This star rating system is clearly Facebook’s attempt to compete against the likes of TripAdvisor, and Yelp. It also takes a swipe and the ‘paid for’ versions such as Trust Pilot and Feefo.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out and whether it will be rolled out across .
