Unlock December 2022 was back with a bang.

We were delighted to welcome over forty guests to The Shire Hall Museum on the 30th November. It was the first in-person event we have held since lockdown – so it was great to get together with our clients and friends, enjoy a glass of wine and listen to our expert panel’s thoughts on the year ahead.

The Shire Hall proved a popular venue as our guests were able to wander around the Museum, visit the court house and even get locked in the prison cells below the dock!

Digital approaches in uncertain times

With uncertain market conditions ahead, the topic for this event was Digital, Marketing & Business approaches and strategies for combatting uncertainty.

Recession and  “cost of living crisis” has been a major topic in the national press. Digital strategy expert Dave McRobbie who led the discussion, questioned how the panel thought businesses should approach the year ahead.

Key topics

  • Are we talking ourselves into a recession?
  • The art of storytelling
  • Is social media a brand building channel?
  • TikTok – is it an appropriate social media platform for mainstream businesses?

Key Takeaways

What’s your brand personality

A key question I will ask when working with a client is “what is the personality of the brand?”. This will help come up with creatives to make the brand stand out from the crowd.

Recession is an opportunity

A recession is the opportunity for businesses to change the narrative from a negative to a positive.

It’s not all doom and gloom

We have noticed a change in spending habits, but the pledges on our Crowdfunder platform continue to go up. One could argue that media outlets are simply driven by the commercials and all of these headlines are about getting “eyes on their content”. I am not sure it is total doom and gloom.

Tiktok is about authenticity

You grow a channel by doing something you are good at and you are interested in. The things that work really well on TikTok are when people are authentic.

Some trades people are using TikTok to showcase their everyday jobs, but doing it in a way that is so captivating you stop and engage with it.

As humans we like stories

We like talking about things, if you read a book called Sapiens, since the beginning of our existence we like telling stories. And that is a simple method that a business can use to grab someones attention and sell their products or service.
